My Friend Lewis:

Lew, as he was called by his many friends was a true gentleman and loyal friend.

Lew, grew up in the Pemberton Heights area of North Van and attended Capilano School, Hamilton and Delbrook. After high school he went on to UBC and graduated in Honours Math.  He moved to Toronto shortly after graduating from UBC and worked for a life insurance company and became an actuary and senior executive.

Lew, was the first person to greet me when we moved to Toronto in 1972 and our families remain close today.

Lew, passed away in 1999.

I got to know Lew Dunn really well in the several years he & I, with others, carpooled to UBC, as well as in the  math classes we took together, and when we studied in the Buchanan Lounge.  When I got transferred to T.O. in '69, we picked up our friendship where we left off, even tho Lew lived in Scarborough & I in Mississauga.  To go to dinner at each other's houses was a major outing - especially in winter - almost necessitating a motel stop & overnight.

Lew started as an actuary w/ Imperial Life, and ended up its president - what a career.  When we moved back to Vancouver we were reduced to sending Christmas cards to each other.  After I moved to the U.S. I lost track of Lew but heard through the grapevine that he had passed away.  Dale says in 1999.  In any event, we called Sandy to offer our condolences and ended up crying to each other over the phone.  I still miss Lew - even after all these years it's hard to believe he's gone - and so early - what a tragedy.
